Like I said in my last post, our Theater department at the high school I work at recently put on a performance of Oliver Twist, which I feel like they did a spectacular job.
One of my favorite projects while I was working as the student photographer at ETBU was doing head shots for our Theater department for their upcoming show. It was good practice for me and it was good publicity for them. So, with the upcoming show of Oliver Twist, I got together with out Theater director and volunteered to do some headshots for our students who were in the show. In turn, I also had a student in my class who is very interested in getting involved in photography, so I offered him some extra credit if he would take some shots for me and work on the post processing on the images he took of the project. I was so proud of my student, he did a spectacular job on the project and walked away from it with a sense of pride—as he should have. I LOVE seeing teens be excited about the work they have done, and knowing I’ve helped them get to that point is so rewarding—like what I’m doing actually means something, and my work here on Earth is benefiting others and not just a pocketbook. I guess that is what teaching is all about.
Anyway, here are a few of the shots I got of our Theater troupe for their performance of Oliver Twist:
Our “Old Sally” she was amazing and is so beautiful!
One thing about this project that excites me so much is that the kids were really excited about the portraits and the fact they were going to have their head shots posted at the play!
This guy Nick is also an AVID student and involved with Computer Science–such a versatile student and has always been so cheerful and nice to me! He did a stellar job in the play and I love how his shot turned out!
This guy is a former student of mine from last year. He’s really tall, and a fun, goofy guy. I was thrilled when I found out he was going to be Mr. Sowerberry in the play! He seems to have been blossoming this year and getting really involved. I’m so proud of him!
Here is one of our beloved Tex-Annes! As you know, I’ve been the assistant director this year of our Drill Team so I’ve had the opportunity to get to know several of our girls, (and guy) and it’s been such a rewarding experience. Isn’t she lovely!
Finally, our Mr. Bumble. He was spectacular! He recently got involved with the Theater as well and did such a wonderful job!
Overall, I’m very pleased with the way most of the shots came out. These types are some of my favorite due to the classic, simple beauty of black and white head shots. They aren’t juiced up with a lot of Photoshop, (which I normally don’t care for anyway,) props, or special locations, and they capture the natural smile of the subject. That is what I love most about photography.
